1924 Everest Expedition - Noel E. Odell (1890-1987)
A collection of letters and manuscripts relating to the preparations for the 1924 expedition, including:
typescript signed (with initials in pencil) by Colonel E.F. NORTON, n.p. [London], n.d. [1924], entitled 'Everest' and containing preparatory notes for the 1924 expedition on Acclimatisation, Preliminary Reconnaissances, Climb - General Principles, Number of Camps, Time, Party Available, Oxygen and non-Oxygen Parties, and with a suggested time-scale, together with a later version of the same, a carbon copy, annotated by Odell 'Suggestions by Norton replacing earlier ones', and with nine other annotations in pen and pencil, together 12 pages, folio;
A collection of autograph and typed notes, one signed in pencil, by Noel ODELL, with autograph annotations, on the 'Sequence of Loads' for the Everest climb, on the numbering of the oxygen cylinders, and fuel and cookers, Rongbuk Base Camp and n.p., 16 May 1924 and n.d., and other papers relating to the oxygen equipment and cookers for the expedition, including a letter signed by Sydney SPENCER ( Joint Secretary of the Mount Everest Committee) appointing Odell Oxygen Officer to the expedition, and an autograph note signed (with initials) by Dr T.G. LONGSTAFF, n.p. 11 February 1924, regarding cookers, 'Test all three ... at Camp III', two pages, 8vo and 4to, in manuscript, and 17 pages, 4to and folio, typescript; and a collection of letters of good wishes to Odell for the expedition, with memoranda and copy letters relating to preparations, and a printed notification of the ballot for Odell's admission to the Alpine Club, 1916, 10 pages, 8vo and 4to, manuscript, 6 pages, 4to and folio, typescript, and one leaf, 4°, printed.
