Lot Essay

Révoil left the army in 1877 to concentrate on exploration, in particular in the Horn of Africa. He was in Zanzibar in 1883, his starting point for an expedition to Somalia (see N. Broc, Dictionnaire illustré des explorateurs franais du XIXe siècle, Paris, 1988, pp.278-81).
