In the jockeying for position within the tetrarchy and before universal recognition of his position as a senior Augustus, Constantine (along with the eastern Caesar Maximinus), was given the title 'filius Augustorum' which appeared on his coinage only in the territories of Licinius and Galerius, In his own domains Constantine never abandoned the title Augustus.
