The Madonna of the Cherries

The present lot derives ultimately from a composition by Leonardo da Vinci, this picture corresponds closely to several of the same subject produced by the workshop of Joos can Cleve (see, for example, M.J. Friedländer, Early Netherlandish Painting, IX, Leyden, 1972, nos.63a-e, i and k, pls. 78-9).
