Brigadier Surgeon William Morton Harman was born in 1842 and attained his M.B. in 1866, B.A. and M.D. in 1887 and became a F.R.C.S.I. in 1883. He joined the Army first as Assistant Surgeon then as Surgeon in 1866. Promoted Surgeon Major in 1878 he served in the Afghan War and in 1886 was given the honorary rank of Brigadier Surgeon.
