Lot Essay

Captain Ashton William Rendle was born in February 1854 and gazetted to the 68th Foot as a Lieutenant in December 1874. Transferring to the Madras Staff Corps in January 1877, he was advanced to Captain in December 1885 and subsequently attached to the 10th Madras Infantry for the duration of hostilities in Burma 1885-87. Sadly, and presently no further information is known, he was 'killed' in that Theatre of War on 30.4.1887.
