A RECTANGULAR COPTIC TEXTILE PANEL WITH TREE AND BIRDS

Depicting a central orange and green branched and fruiting tree with an eagle-like bird in the centre, two further birds in the upper branches with black bodies, yellow wings and orange legs, and two on the ground with green bodies, yellow wings and orange legs, with orange scroll pattern border, mounted, textile 5½ x 4.5/8 in. (14 x 11.7 cm.) max.; a clavus-border decorated with a fish flanked by plants in orange, yellow and green, scroll pattern border, circa 6th Century A.D., textile 11.1/8 x 2 in. (28.2 x 5.1 cm.); and another brightly coloured rectangular textile border fragment, with central frieze of blue, green, orange and red human figures alternating with mythical figures, flanked by red borders and cream scroll pattern, circa 7th-8th Century A.D., textile 12½ x 5¼ in.
