A COPTIC TEXTILE FRAGMENT
CIRCA 7TH-8TH CENTURY A.D.
Composed of two rectangular panels in pink, red, yellow, green and pale blue, on an orange background, each panel with central dark blue frieze of a bird and lion roundel flanked on each side by four human figures, two friezes above and below with human faces divided by branches on a green background, with blue arcaded trefoil borders, textile, 17½ x 13¼ in. (44.5 x 35 cm.) max.; a square textile fragment, a purple lion within a central roundel, surrounded by pale blue, green, red and yellow stepped motifs within a yellow border, textile 7¼ in. (18.4 cm.) square; and another Coptic style fragmentary textile with human figure, repaired, 15½ in. (39.4 cm.) high, all framed and glazed (3)
