A London delft polychrome Royalist caudle-cup
Circa 1690
With loop handle, painted in blue, ochre and manganese with a half-length portrait of William III in his coronation robes holding his orb and sceptre and half-turned to the right, flanked by the initials W R and by two columns forming an arch (cracked through the portrait and above the handle at the back, flaking to rim)

Lot Essay

It would seem that no dated caudle-cups commemorating William III are known; even those showing him with Queen Mary are not usually dated.
