AN EGYPTIAN WOOD SARCOPHAGUS LID
Late Period, Dynasty XXX to Early Ptolemaic Period, 380-280 B.C.

The deceased depicted wearing a curved false beard, tripartite wig and broad collar, the face with raised eyelids, prominent ears and full lips, traces of original black pigment on the pupils and elements of the broad collar, the single column of hieroglyphs in sunk relief down the front of the body containing an invocation offering to "Osiris, Foremost of the Westerners, the Great God...in order that he might grant...all things, good and pure" to the deceased whose name is not preserved, the foot and front square section of the headdress missing, 61 1/4in. (155.6cm.) long
