With serpentine rectangular grey veined marble top and foliate-carved frieze with shaped apron centred by a cartouche with a crest of two arms holding a sword, on cabriole legs each headed by a satyr mask and carved with foliage, lacking right-hand side of motto

Lot Essay

The crest has traditionally been identified with that of the Parnell Family, however, the Parnell crest is "out of a ducal coronet, or a dexter arm, in hand a sheaf of arrows". This is a different family to that of Charles Stewart Parnell, the Irish nationalist leader.
