A CREWEL-EMBROIDERED LINEN HAND TOWEL
POSSIBLY EPHRATA, PENNSYLVANIA, SECOND-QUARTER 19TH CENTURY

The rectangular plain woven form with applied hanging loops at either corner embellished below with the red cross-stitched initials "E.L.," above four horizontal registers including a red, black, cream, pink, olive and lavender flowering bush set with birds, over a similarly pigmented strawberry bush, above a central red tulip set with red and black birds, each flanked by brown and black horses, over a large dark blue, brown, pink, red, light blue and white peacock--55¼in. x 15½in.
