Lot Essay

The date of execution rules out the identification of the sitter as Philip Ferdinand van der Veecken, whose daughter Machtilda Margaretha was only born in 1686. She married Johan Florens de Nerée in 1700. Johan van der Veecken was agent for the Elector of Cologne at the States General in The Hague.
