A brass and ivory Samovar 'Cockerel'**
Russia, circa 1880
Stylistically cast and engraved as a cockerel, standing on two claw feet and tail, the bulbous body chased and engraved with a Russian adage, the spout formed as the cockerel's head with red cabochon eyes, the sides with ivory-mounted handles, between bands of stylised flowers, the detachable domed cover, chimney and top similarly decorated and mounted, apparently unmarked
with chimney 24.3/8in. (62cm.) high
