George Cawardine, a medical doctor, designed for Herbert Terry the first fully articulated desk lamp with a spring tension mechanism based on the ergonomics of the human arm. The example offered is from the first series of production. Lamps produced later in the 1930s featured a modified shade and two-stepped pedestal.
