A MILANESE WALNUT, ROSEWOOD, TULIPWOOD AND MARQUETRY COMMODE
Late 18th Century
Bordered overall in tulipwood, the rectangular projecting diagonally banded top with crossbanded panel inset with scrolling foliage borders centred by a cartouche with a classical female figure leaning against a column, the cartouche flanked by scrolling foliage above a long frieze drawer, further inlaid with scrolling foliage with two long drawers below inlaid sans traverse centred by a cartouche with a cherub and woman, flanked by shaped panels of scrolling foliage between panelled uprights of floral sprays, the sides with quarter-veneered panels centred by a roundel with two peasants, on tapering legs, losses and replacements
