A LOMBARDY WALNUT, FRUITWOOD AND TULIPWOOD MARQUETRY COMMODE
Third quarter 18th Century
Overall banded and inlaid with foliate and lappeted motifs, the rectangular top with a circular medallion inset with a standing couple, the man dressed as a warrior and the woman with a draped dress, within a stylised foliate frame, above a frieze drawer inlaid with floral and foliate swags and small baskets and two further drawers sans traverse centred by a circular medallion with a conforming couple, the angles flanked by arabesques and war trophies, the sides conformingly inlaid each with a circular panel depicting a harvesting standing woman, on square tapering legs, later back, the two lower drawers with later back liners
