an unusual account: John Braid, Carpenter, states that the fire started by a match in a tub, which was usually kept there for hte signal guns... As the fire raged, the lower gun ports were opened, the scuppers plugged, and the pumps manned to protect the powder magazines, that is until the middle-deck guns fell through the deck, seven hundred feared lost, about one hundred and fifty saved.
