Lot Essay

The mountain scene is in the famous Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. This work was one of two prepatory paintings for his Royal Academy exhibit in 1881, No. 521. It was exhibited the same year as his famous February Fill Dyke, no. 42, which resulted in his becoming elected an Associate of the Royal Academy (ARA).

We are grateful to Ruth Wood for her kind assistance in cataloging this lot.
