Lot Essay

This unique work was conceived as a project for a mirror designed by Auguste Rodin in association with the famous engraveur, Félix Braquemond. The plaster cast by Rodin was exhibited at the 1902 Salon Nationale des Beaux-Arts along with versions of the mirror executed in gold, ivory and enamel by Braquemond. This rare work is an important example and one of the few remaining ornamental pieces by Rodin.
