Second or third edition of this treatise on the gospels by the Spanish Dominican Juan de Torquemada, Cardinal of St. Sixtus from 1439, uncle of the Grand Inquisitor Tomás de Torquemada, and an important figure at the councils of Basel and Florence. Initials in red, opening initial pearled and flourished, a few others with reserved decoration and flourishes, paragraph marks in red. (Mostly marginal staining, final blank defective, sewing of last quire a bit loose.)

Probable fifth edition of one of several popular collections of sermons by the Franciscan Roberto Caraccioli or Roberto de Licio, named Bishop of Aquino in 1480. As the most popular Italian preacher of his day, Caraccioli was one of the first authors to see his works diffused in print. Over 75 incunable editions of his various sermons are recorded. Binding: contemporary German alum-tawed pigskin over wooden boards, front cover with border of large rosettes and central saltire panel with rhomboid bird and flower tools, back cover with overall saltire pattern, the interstices stamped with large rosettes and a few small rhomboid floral tools, small rosette tools at intersections, spine with other small rosette and rhomboid tools, the tools not in Kyriss or Schwenke-Sammlung; leather of spine overlapping the endbands, pair of brass fore-edge catches and catchplates, strips of parchment pasted inside covers in lieu of pastedown endpapers (lacking clasps, covers wormed).
