Collation: [1-48; 5-218 2210; 238 246] (1/1 blank, 1/2r Bernoldus; 5/1r Albertus, 22/10v blank; 23/1r table, 24/6 blank). 190 leaves (of 192, without the first and final blanks). 39 lines, double column. Types: 5:136G (headings, headlines, etc), 4:96aG (text). Three- to nine-line initial spaces. Rubricated with red pearled Lombard initials, capital strokes, paragraph signs and underlines. (Recent repairs to blank margins of 3/1 and 16/1.) 19th-century red morocco (rebacked with spine laid down.)

Second Ulm edition of this popular work attributed to Albertus Magnus, first printed in Nuremberg ca. 1469 (Goff A-229). Zainer's previous edition (Goff A-233) is dated not after 1480 on the basis of a rubricator's date in the Stuttgart copy. According to the annotated edition of BMC, a Leipzig copy of the present edition had a rubricator's date of 1481.
Hugo Ripelin of Strassburg, a Dominican, wrote the Compendium theologicae veritatis as a summary of important theological concepts. Bernold, who was a Cistercian monk of Kaisersheim in Bavaria, extracted from the Compendium a list of themes for sermons de tempore and de sanctis which was often published with it, as here.
