Chancery 2o (271 x 193 mm). Collation: [1-158 16-186] (1/1 blank, 1/2r table, 1/4v dedication, 1/6r text). 137 leaves (of 138, without the first blank). 31 lines. Type: 1A:127G. One- to five-line initial spaces. Rubricated with red Lombard initials and capital strokes. (Faint dampstain to blank margins.) 19th-century speckled boards.

An early edition of this popular late medieval manual of pastoral care. The text, by a Spanish cleric of whom little is known, was copied in many manuscripts of the fourteen and fifteenth centuries, and was printed in dozens of incunable editions. The first dated edition was that printed in Paris on 21 May 1473 (Goff G-566). The printer of Lotharius is named from his press's edition of Innocent III (Lotharius Conti), De misera humanae conditionis (Goff I-84, probably before 1474). Peter Amelung has suggested that the Lotharius printer is to be identified with Conrad Mancz, the first printer of Blaubeuren (Die Frhdruck im deutschen Sdwesten, Stuttgart 1979, I, p. xvii). The present edition is dated from a rubrication inscription in the Augsburg copy.
