Lot Essay

The use of 'the Gunslinger Cowboy' on this piece, as well as the door and the chest of drawers in the Sumers' commission may constitute Molesworth's first use of this logo. This motif was inspired by an advertisement, produced in the early 1930s by Edward Grigware for NorthWest Airlines for use in the newly-built Billings, Montana Airport. Often overlooked in this drawing is the plane circling overhead, upon which the cowboy's gaze is fixed
