The central scene enamelled in puce, iron-red, black, sepia and gold, after a European print showing a lady apparently near her departure in the arms of her husband and in the company of a doctor, encircled by a spearhead-pattern border and a shell-scroll around the rim (frittings)

Lot Essay

The unusual scene is to be found on a plate with a more elaborate cartouche and border illustrated by F. & N. Hervouët, La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à Décor Occidentale, 1986, no. 15.39, colour plate.
