A fan, the leaf painted with lovers watching Apollo's chariot,the verso with shepherds and a shepherdess, one playing bagpipes, the ivory sticks pieced and cloute with mother of pearl birds and butterflies amongst blossom, the guardsticks carved with putti, the handle forming a shell when closed - 11.5in. (29cm.), probably English, circa 1740
