Two albums, one with twenty-four albumen prints, approx. 8¾ x 11 in. or the reverse, the majority signed Scowen & Co, Ceylon and titled in the negatives, three titled in pencil on mounts, red leather, gilt, 11 x 14½ in.; the other with sixty-two albumen prints, sizes from 7½ x 9¼ in. to 8½ x 11½ in., some titled, numbered and/or signed Bourne in the negative, some titled in pencil on mounts, red leather, gilt, 11 x 14½ in.; with an illustrated book A Phrenologist Amongst the Todas, William E. Marshall, London: Longmans, Green and Co, 1873; twenty-five photogravures by Bourne & Shepherd printed on thin card and one other albumen print (a lot)

Samuel Bourne album includes mosques (interiors and exteriors), river views, temples, palaces, ruins, street scenes and group portraits in Bombay, Agra, Ceylon, Delhi and other places. Photogravure subjects include architectural details and views, single and group portraits and more river scenes in Darjeeling, Tanjore, Cawnpore, Lucknow, Kashmir, Calcutta and elsewhere.
