A LOUIS XVI-STYLE JEWELLED AND SPLIT-PEARL SET GOLD CARNET-DE-BAL

Slightly tapering rectangular etui-à-tablettes with arched top, of octagonal section, both sides of cover and base with horizontal wavy guilloché panels covered with translucent blue enamel, within borders of white ename dotting and frosted gold bands with translucent green enamel leaves alternating with rose-cut diamonds and split-pearls, the top similarly enamelled, white enamelled short sides and plain gold base, reeded gold rims bound with twisted ribbons, obverse and reverse of cover applied with silver-mounted rose-cut diamond inscription Souvenir d'amitié, the obverse of the base centred by an oval opalescent glass panel over engine-turning, within a rose-cut diamond border, applied with a small sapphire and rose-cut diamond mounted vase containing two hearts in gold wire, the reverse with similarly framed rose-cut diamond monogram 'JL', diamond-set pushpiece; gold pencil holder, steel scissors with gold handles and three-leaved tablets inside
