A SWISS GOLD VINAIGRETTE SET WITH A ROMAN MICRO-MOSAIC
unmarked, probably Geneva, circa 1820, the mosaic probably Rome
Boat-shaped box, the cover inlaid with an oval micro-mosaic plaque depicting a spaniel reclining in a landscape, within a matted gold border flanked by two matching raised thumbpieces, the sides of the base engraved with a peacock's feather pattern with remnants of blue enamelling, the base with an engine-turned diaperwork, the hinged grille pierced and engraved with a pattern of interwoven circles linked by flowerheads
