Lot Essay

This bag was included in the exhibition, A Time of Gathering, Native Heritage in Washington State, because of the significant symbolism of the design pattern. It was noted that this bag may be one of the earliest references to Christianity in Nez Perce beadwork. The linked triangles surmounted by the cross symbol represent the Christian church.
