Poussielgue (Controller of the Army in Egypt), Cairo, 28 December 1798. 2 pages, 4o, decorative "Liberté Égalité" stationery, small stain catching three words text, otherwise fine. BONAPARTE IN EGYPT. During the Egyptian expedition, the Controller of finance for L'Armee d'Orient writes to Napoleon ("Citoyen General") about instructions to confer with the sheiks who profit from the manufacture of coins. He discusses Napoleon's orders to distribute land as a pension to the sheiks. Poussielgue proposes a different proportional division, and adds: "I spoke of it to the sheik Omadi," and "will speak to others if you wish, though it will occupy much of my time." In a postscript he asks Napoleon to specify which towns should be allocated to which Mamelukes, "unless you would rather give them the choice." At the end is an endorsement: "Give one of the towns to the wife of Ibrahim Bey..."
