EINSTEIN, Albert (1879-1955). Autograph manuscript, a leaf of calculations using gauge terms, n.p., n.d., one page in pencil, one in ink, some cancellations, 2 pages, folio, on a single leaf (274 x 190mm), unwatermarked paper, the pencilled side annotated 'No 10' in another hand (very faint staining, short tears to centrefold).
The page in ink pursues a series of equations relating to a converging alternating series, concluding that it converges badly; the pencilled page refers to a particular variety of section ('Brucken-Schnitt') and its correspondence with the unit circle ('Einheitskreis'). The precise nature of the calculations remains undetermined. Einstein was an inveterate recycler of paper, and it is possible that the calculations on the two sides are unrelated. (2)
