Details
Militaire Costumen der Nederlandsche Land-En Zeemagt. The Hague: D. van Lier, 1847-1850.

2° (351 x 260mm). 27 hand-coloured lithographic plates, most after H.W. Last, the plates on paper guards. (A few plates browned and spotted, one plate short at margins and presumably either bound in from another copy or else another work.) Later brown half morocco, spine gilt, original wrappers to the parts bound in, the front wrappers with printed title.

RARE ILLUSTRATIONS OF DUTCH ARMY AND NAVAL UNIFORMS, with title printed in Dutch and French on the four wrappers. The work was presumably issued without letterpress in 4 parts, although, but for the fact that it is pink rather than blue, the third wrapper appears to be identical with the first. The fourth wrapper has a differing decorative border and appears under the imprint of the brothers J. & H. van Lengenhuysen rather than van Lier. A pencil note on the front blank states that the 27 lithographs, which are unnumbered, 'are 3 more than the copy of Leger Museum, Leyden.' Not in Colas or Lipperheide.
Special notice
No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
