SMITH, William (1727-1803). Relation historique de l'expédition, contre les indiens de l'Ohio en MDCCLXIV. Commandée par le chevalier Henry Bouquet... Amsterdam: Marc-Michel Rey, 1769.
8o (220 x 135 mm). Half-title. (Last leaf mounted and with lower fore-corner restored, E5-6 partially parted.) 6 engraved plates, including 2 scenes of Bouquet with Indians and 4 folding maps. Modern red morocco gilt, by R. Calvert.
Translation by C. G. F. Dumas of the London, 1766 edition of Smith's An historical account of the expedition against the Ohio Indians, originally published in Philadelphia: William Bradford, 1765. "The introduction described Bouquet's successful expedition of 1763, to relieve Fort Pitt from the siege of the Shawnees, Delawares, and other Indian tribes. Because of lack of men, he was unable to follow up his victory at Bushy Run, and depredations by the Indians continued. He was despatched by General Gage in 1764, to force them to make treaties of peace, and to release their prisoners, in both of which aims he was successful" (Sabin.) Howes S-693; Sabin 8464.
