Lot Essay

The fine quality, handcrafted wool carpets that V'Soske designed, as well as those of other artists and designers ranging from Stuart Davis and George Nelson to Michael Graves, that he manufactured, brought his carpets a prestigious name and commissions from influential clients, including the carpet for the Green Room in the White House in the 1950s. V'Soske developed the sculptural, or molded, carpet, using several pile heights and densities of wool contrasting cut-and-looped piles to vary the texture of the surface and create a sense of depth through shadows.
