An early 19th-Century brass theodolite,
signed on the silvered compass dial SIMMS LONDON, the telescope with rack and pinion adjustment, lens cap, mounted on the upper limb by twin fold-over clamps, with pins, with bubble level, the half vertical circle with silvered scale and vernier, raised on twin supports from the horizontal plate incorporating the compass box, the compass with edge-bar needle on jewelled pivot, with clamp, with cross bubble and level, the horizontal plate engraved with the military broad arrow and inscribed Trig Survey P, the chamfered silvered scale with twin verniers, on four-screw tripod attachment, the telescope -- 13½in. (34.3cm.) long
