signed on the foot Cary LONDON, the body-tube with sliding bar and friction clamp to the square-section pillar, the stage with rack and pinion movement to the pillar with slide holder and sub-stage mirror (glass missing), with compass-joint to turned tapering column and folding tripod stand, with five numbered objectives and three unnumbered lieberkuhn-mounted objectives, with tweezers and two ivory-handled probes in original fitted mahogany case -- 87/8in. (22.5cm.) wide; and a 19th-Century brass botanist's microscope by LENNIE OPTICIAN EDINBURGH, with rack and pinion focusing to the body-tube, sub-stage condenser and mirror and black-enammelled square-section horseshoe stand, with two objectives by A. Ross London in brass canisters, and two fruitwood-handled probes, in leather case with wood fittings -- 10in. (25.4cm.) wide
