WIZARD OF OZ, 1939
A 1939 campaign book for the film version of The Wizard of Oz. The book is one of the most lavishly lithographed of its kind, consisting of three seperate pieces. The first piece is the full-color folded cover, which shows on the back all the art work for the various film posters; inside two color reproductions of lobby cards and, glued to the lower right inside cover, a flyer printed on onion skin, which MGM was offering to theater owners as a promotional tool. The second section is a fifteen page advertising section, printed on newsprint and in remarkably solid shape, which shows all the approved print ads for the film as well as the first installments of a couple of newspaper serials. The third section is a twenty-six page campaign book, labeled "Exploitation", detailing various print stories, promotional materials and other goodies. The latter was printed on high quality glossy white stock and shows no sign of age.
