CHIANG KAI-SHEK (1887-1975)
Full-length portrait photograph of Chiang Kai-Shek and his wife, Soong Mei-Ling, standing in a garden, inscribed with their names and seals in Chinese characters on the left of the mount, with inscription also in Chinese characters to 'Sir Cadogan' on the right, image 275 x 220mm., framed and glazed.

Lot Essay

The inscription may well refer to Sir Alexander George Montagu Cadogan who was minister plenipotentiary at Peking 1933-1935. By 1935, Chiang Kai-Shek was head of the executive and commander-in-chief of the Chinese army and so this photograph probably dates from that time.
