Of a Dutchman holding a cockerel in both arms, wearing a long frock-coat with stylised wave patterns over knee-breeches (some old damage and restoration)

Lot Essay

The dress of these Dutchmen is early to mid-eighteenth century with typical frock-coats, knee-breeches and wide-brimmed hats. Netsuke carvers would have had many opportunities to study Dutchman during their regular journeys to the capital Edo.
