AN IRON tsuba BY TSUTENBO NAGAYUKI, ANOTHER BY UMETADA SHIGEYOSHI, A THIRD SIGNED KINAI MUNEMITSU
Edo period (17th/19th century)
An aori-gata iron tsuba decorated with a carp leaping a waterfall, signed Tsutenbo Nagayuki, 8.5cm; another decorated with the islands of Japan, with the names of the provinces inlaid in gold, the reverse with a gohei [folded paper Shinto charm], mounted on a stick, signed Umetada Shichizaemon Tachibana Shigeyoshi, 8.3cm; and a circular iron tsuba finely carved and pierced with insects on flowering grasses, signed Echizen no ju Takahashi Kinai Munemitsu saku kore, 7.7cm.
