A LARGE HEIANJO TSUBA AND FOURTEEN OTHERS
Edo period (17/19th century)
An iron Heianjo tsuba inlaid in brass with spirals, leaves and vines, 8.8cm.; an iron chrysanthemum-shaped tsuba (worn), 7.8cm.; a square Sado school tsuba pierced with four 'boar's eye' forms, 6.8cm.; an oval Ito sukashi tsuba pierced with a squirrel and grapes, 7.2cm.; an iron eight-lobed gomoku zogan [hotchpotch inlay] tsuba with a brass covered rim, 8.4cm.; a heavy oval iron tsuba decorated with areas of stars amongst karakusa, signed Shoami, 8cm.; an iron tsuba with a tortoiseshell patterned ground, pierced with a sickle shape, with signature Nobuie, 8.6cm.; an iron tanto tsuba, pierced with flowers and leaves, 5.4cm.; a mokko-shaped Kyo-sukashi tsuba pierced with floral mon patterns, 8.3cm.; a Nanban tsuba pierced with monkeys, a fan, cloves, a leaf and two gilt forms, 7.3cm.; a circular iron Heianjo tsuba inlaid in brass with a wheel design radiating from the seppa-dai, 8.1cm.; an iron tanto tsuba in the form of a hawk, or a fledgling pigeon, with signature ... Kii Munetsugu (the rest of the inscription obscured by rust pitting), 6.3cm.; a Heianjo style tsuba, iron with peonies in brass inlay, clematis vines around the raised edge in brass (inlay missing), 7.7cm.; an unsigned oval iron tanto tsuba of classical Jakushi work, with a man poling a boat on a lake, two men watching him from the shore, 6.3cm.; and a small shibuichi ishime-ji tanto tsuba inlaid in silver and two colours of gold with gourd vines on one edge, continuing over the rim, 5.6cm.
