Lucien Falize (1839 - 1897) is most noted for his historicist jewellery of the Renaissance period. He first began to exhibit jewellery reflecting the 16th century in Amsterdam in 1877 and due to its popularity, he displayed similar pieces at the 1878 Exposition Universelle. This particular bracelet is a typical example of his oeuvre and depicts the initials of Henry II and his mistress, Diane de Poitiers, together with the symbols of Diana the Huntress.
The reverse shows earlier heraldic symbols of the unicorn, lion rampant, spread eagle and a plumed helmet, all worked in raised polychrome enamel of the highest quality.
