Lot Essay

Maryport in Cumbria was the home of the Reverend Geoffrey Bennett, a great friend of the artist for over fifty years. When Lowry died, Reverend Bennett conducted his funeral service and Lowry bequeathed to him his inlaid Tompion grandfather clock. Reverend Bennett's collection of fourteen works by L.S. Lowry was sold in these rooms on 23 March 1995, lots 100-113.
