Specialist note
Between October 1921 and January 1922 Bell stayed at La Maison Blanche in St Tropez with her children and Duncan Grant. Situated above and at the back of the town the house had extensive views over the port and coastline.
Another view of St Tropez, seen through a window at La Maison Blanche, is in the collection of the Tate Gallery (see R. Shone, The Art of Bloomsbury, Tate Gallery exhibition catalogue, London, 1999, no. 209).
We are very grateful to Richard Shone for his assistance in preparing this catalogue entry.
