FRANK WORRELL, a West Indies cap in maroon embroidered with the West Indian crest.
Sir Frank Worrell was the first black West Indian to captain the West Indies team on a regular basis. A brilliant batsman (the best of the lengendary "three W's") he averaged 89.83 in tests on his first of three tours to England in 1950, including his highest test innings of 261 in the Trent Bridge test. He was knighted for his services to cricket in 1964, yet died just three years later at the age of 42. This cap was presented to the vendor in Trindad at the end of the 1959/60 West Indies versus England series. It is sold with a letter of provenance from the vendor.
