Lot Essay

Minton travelled to Corsica in August 1947 with the poet Alan Ross to work on, Time Was Away: A Notebook in Corsica. The notebook was the idea of John Lehmann, a literary figure with whom Minton had worked extensively at the Hogarth Press and later for Lehmann's own publishing house. Time Was Away was published in November 1948 to critical acclaim.
