The light blue-ground decorated with a medallion enclosing the depiction of the cathedral of Christ the Redemptor, further with flowerbranches surrounding cyrillic initials, on a metal chain

Lot Essay

This Moscow cathedral was built to commemorate the Victory over Napoleon in 1812. Stalin destroyed it with dynamite to replace it with a Palace of the Soviets. Yeltsin finally ordered to rebuild it before the end of the 20th century.
