The cylindrical body decorated with a Laub und Bandelwerk cartouche upholding two peacocks separated by a fruitfilled basket above a winged cherub's head suspending floral garlands, inscribed T TERRAE SIGILL. with upright neck
12cm. (4 3/4 in.) high

Lot Essay

T TERRAE SIGILL for terra sigillata; bole, fine unctuous clay obtained from Armenia and the isle of Lemnos. Used as a remedy for gastro-intestinal disorders.
