A William and Mary silver and ivory tankard
Maker's mark of William Penstone, London, 1699
Tapering cylindrical on detachable moulded ivory foot, with scroll handle, foliage and corkscrew thumbpiece and hinged slightly domed part-ivory cover, the silver body repoussè with a bacchic scene of putto satyrs carousing in a forest, one riding a goat and one playing the cymbals, the cover with a cylindrical plaque similarly repousse with a figure of Cupid and attendant putto, the handle later engraved with a coat-of-arms and crest, marked on body, cover and handle
